March 17th, 2013, the lecture "Hello From Australia" was held in the Capital Library of China. This lecture invited the famous Australia illustrator, Ann James, who was the illustrator of The Midnight Gang, Penny Pollard’s Letters and many other children’s books.

In the lecture, she said that she loves drawing, and then, she drew a map of Australia. She said when she was a little kid, she thought the map looks rather like the head of a dog than a map. Then she added a few dots and lines on the map andchanged the map to a dog. She also said she loves animals. She has two pet dogs. The big one is called Nick. The small one is called Dot. She drew two pictures of both of them. Them she told the children about the books which she illustrated and told them about what material she used to drew them.

One student asked her that if she made a mistake, what she will do. So she told he children a story. A few years ago, when she was illustrating a book, she drew a picture of a stormy sky. She drew this picture over and over because she is not happy with her work. She was finally satisfied with the twelfth one. But when she was tearing the drawing off her drawing pad, it broke. She got very angry, so she went for a walk. When she got back, she looked at the picture,then she saw something magical: the break on the pater looks just like lightnings! She would never think of drawing lightings if she didn’t break the paper. So she learned that when you made a mistake, don’t be angry, look at the mistake in another way, maybe you can turn bad things into good things.

In the end, the children took picture with Ann. And she gave out all the drawings to the children as souvenirs.
